Seeking Simone

Seeking Simone is about a personal quest which began when I bought my first copy of The Second Sex when I was a student.  I was so struck reading this book by the courage of Simone de Beauvoir’s writing.  I was impressed by the way in which she challenged the French society in which she lived and advocated for a different way of thinking, which was revolutionary at the time. Her book was considered by many to be one of the most important books of the twentieth century. I had so many questions after reading it, and it was very important to me to find out more. I wrote and directed Seeking Simone, and also appear in the film.

 

I have made several short films previously including some others which examine French culture and society.  In 2021, I produced a short film titled Caudalie commissioned by the Bastille Day French Festival (BDFF) in Melbourne (see teaser attached). This festival was founded by the Honorary Consul General for France, Myriam Boisbouvier, and the film was supported by the Victorian Government. In 2022 I produced a very short film about the Picasso exhibition at the NGV (see attached).
